March 1st, 2012

Today, we played zip zap boing again, but that was just for kicks I think. The important part was that we continued to practice the jabberwock play. We had to make sure that we had at least a little bit of it down, enough to give a teaser (but we ran out of time). That being said, we did assign roles, and acted out the first stanza or two, and we know how we will do them. I specifically will be playing a half of the 'mimsy'... plant thing (I can't remember the full name) with Jean-Louis. We will then sort of morph into the antagonists of the story, the Jabberwockys. At first, when we were being the mimsy things, When the narrator says we are mimsy, we will start sort of swaying, 'flimsily'. Me not really acting as anything in my life, it felt really awkward at first to be just hunched over and swaying. I think Jean-Louis felt generally the same way; to just sort of sway like that and to make that the action your brain is focusing on just took some getting used to. Swaying is usually a thing I do absent mindedly, sub consciously, and if I realize I'm doing it I'd stop, so doing it on purpose wasn''t hard but felt wierd. I did get comfortable swaying like a plant in the wind after a few takes as we worked bugs out though, like where the others should be. Jean-Louis and I then had to grab Gaia and drag her off somewhere. She said we were being a little too rough, so we need to work on finding the right blend of gentleness so no one gets hurt and roughness so it'll look believable.

Excellent work, here, Andrew. I particularly like the fact that you tied mimsy to a plant thing (seaweed?) and generally swaying. Also, your reflection on the weirdness of it is exactly the kind of entry that will help you to make it feel less weird in the future.
